About Us
The Gluten Free Pro’s behind this website are Martin, Katie and Barry.
We all met at a little stall at a local food market 3 years ago. Katie, an accomplished gluten free chef had prepared a dizzying and mouth-watering array of cakes and treats for display and delectation. Myself and Martin were drooling at her altar, I hadn’t realised that everything before my eyes was gluten-free so my lust was initially tinged with sadness. Martin then asked Katie if she was sure that all of the goods were suitable for someone with celiac disease. Her confirmation took a few moments to register in my mind and when they did my life changed forever.
Back then I had only recently found out that I had coeliac disease (the spelling is not a mistake, I’m British) and I had not taken it in a very positive way. I wrongly assumed I was in for a life of abstention, misery, bland food and recurring stomach problems – whatever the dietician said.
Martin and Katie were already gluten-free pro’s, they had lived with it for a long time and it was not a problem in their lives. They had adopted a new lifestyle for sure, but they were not prepared to compromise or sacrifice.
We got talking, we went for a drink, we gorged on gluten free goodies and we formed a friendship that will last for life.
Martin has given me a gluten-free education and Katie a gluten-free pantry, fridge and bathroom cabinet. I have embraced my new lifestyle, it’s a weird way of looking at it but then there isn’t really a choice so what are you going to do.
My diet is full of wonderful, fresh, vibrant, natural and flavorsome and I have never been healthier. I live a normal active life and still like to treat myself to pizza, beer and cake. I try and screen restaurants when possible before I go to them and tend to take my own food to parties but I don’t let Gluten stop me from eating out or going to parties.
Going gluten free is for life so you have to do it right – you have to be professional.
I wasn’t at first and I was miserable, Katie and Martin have showed me the right way to approach my condition and we hope that through the information and suggestions that we will putting on this website that we can help you to.
Going Gluten Free is not a problem – you just need a bit of understanding and preparation
